Leadership Lake Oswego hosts a high-profile community speaker each month. Here are two from this year’s lineup: LOSD Superintendent Dr. Lora de la Cruz and LO City Manager Martha Bennett.
The Program’s Leadership Curriculum
Dr. Bill Korach, retired Lake Oswego Superintendent of Schools who has taught over 50 graduate level leadership classes between Portland State and Lewis and Clark, will be teaching the program’s leadership curriculum in each session of the program. His focus will be on personal growth directly related to the leadership abilities that matter most.
A powerful leadership truth is that the more of a person one can become—the more present, aware, open, curious, and insightful one is—the better leader one will be capable of being. After all, leadership integrity is about relationships—the quality of one’s relationships with others as well as the quality of one’s relationship with one’s self.
So how will you benefit from the 2020-2021 personal growth leadership curriculum?
If you are interested in joining this year’s Chamber Leadership Program, which offers an opportunity for personal growth as a path to making a difference in your life as a leader, three plusses of the leadership development personal growth curriculum are as follows:
- Cohort fellowship. There is great renewal and growth benefit for adults that comes from learning together with others in a collective pursuit of expanding one’s awareness and leadership abilities. New friendships developed within a community fellowship offer meaningful personal support, connection and camaraderie.
- Experienced mentorship. Dr. Korach, whose leadership expertise is well known, will guide the leadership growth teaching curriculum. His goal as a facilitator will be creating the conditions that make it possible for all participants to make their own way toward meaningful personal growth.
- Self-determination. All participants in the program will be encouraged to select what they find to be most valuable from among the leadership growth abilities to strive to pursue, practice and embody in their path to developing and expanding personal growth.

- Thursday, September 10 – Class meet and greet, 5-6:30 in person and virtually
- Thursday, September 17 – 7:30-9:00 am City Council / Mayor Candidate Forum in person at Oswego Lake Country Club or online
- Thursday, October 15 – 9:00-11:30 am Chamber and all about Lake Oswego
- November 19, 2020 – Business
- December 10, 2020 – City Services / Government
- January 21, 2021 – Education
- February 18, 2021 – Media & Communications
- March 18, 2021 – County/State/Federal Government
- April 15, 2021 – Public Safety – fire/police
- May 20, 2021 – History / Culture
- June 17, 2021 – Graduation

- Achieve personal and professional growth, and develop individual leadership skills and abilities.
- Discover meaningful opportunities for businesses, organizations, and individuals to make connections and build mutually beneficial relationships.
- Develop into insightful, civic-oriented leaders who are interested in helping shape and direct the future of Lake Oswego.
- Demonstrate what you’ve learned by participating in a group legacy project and providing leadership to the following years’ class.
More than 750 people have completed the Leadership Lake Oswego program since 1986. Last year’s class included Review editor Patrick Malee; City Councillor Theresa Kohlhoff; LO Schools Foundation director Whitney Woolf; Respond to Racism founder Willie Poinsette, African American Women of Lake Oswego’s Denise Milhollen, and Lakewood Center producer Steve Knox from a class that included representation from city police, fire and the library; bankers, attorneys, and principals and directors from the LO School District.
